Biography

Michael has over 40 years of experience designing, developing, and deploying security products and architectures in multinational corporate environments. His expertise includes more than 30 years of contributing to, leading, and shaping security standards, as well as over 25 years of involvement in corporate policy, national and international legislation, and multinational regulatory matters.

Michael has successfully completed over two dozen Common Criteria certifications, overseeing the entire process, from documentation creation to evaluator selection and scheme determination. He actively tracks security standards, regulations, and legislation across the US, EU, and APAC regions. Additionally, he is involved with the CC in the Cloud (Application Protection Profile) working group.

Michael is an active member of the security community, serving on various national and international advisory councils. He has chaired the ISSA International Webinar Committee, contributed to the BIS ISTAC as a technology expert, and co-chaired a working group focused on reforming security export regulations. From 2012 to 2022, he was a member of the program committee for the RSA International Symposia. Additionally, he has spoken at numerous national and international security conferences, including RSA, ISSA, ISC2, and InfoSec World.

Michael holds 90 U.S. patents, with the majority focused on security. His accolades include being a former Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer and receiving the TCPA Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2011, ISSA recognized him as Security Professional of the Year, followed by his induction into the ISSA Hall of Fame in 2013. In 2021, he was honored as an ISSA Distinguished Fellow.
